Plate amps

Im looking for a poweramp to build into my homemade 1x15 cab. I want it to be light weight and deliver about 300-500W into 8 ohms. I´ve e-mailed bagend to see if they sell this separately:

That would be a great match.
Any other alternatives out there? Most seem to be intended for home cinema subs with corssovers etc.

There are low power (125w) versions of on-board amps available, but at this point the high power stuff is all going to OEM applications. Figure two to five years before production figures are adequate to free up adequate inventory for retail sales.

The Hypex modules look nice. What seems to be lacking in the market are Class-D solutions that include power supply and mains wiring. I just don't feel comfortable going out on a gig with DIY mains wired gear.

I´ve seen that site too. But I don´t think I´ll be able to do all the wiring that has to be done to get any sound out of these.

well the minima one from bagend is manufactured by speakerpower..... which uses the bang&olufsen ICE power module..... great piece of engineering.... will bag end sell the minima direct to consumers?

I've often wondered what would happen if you took one of these amps and simply disconnected the crossover to make if full range. It'll probably sound nasty but I'd like to hear from anyone who has ever actually done it?

You may not be comfortable with the amount of wiring required with these either though I guess? fdeck raises a good point about staying within your comfort zone for DIY power amp projects, I think.

Have you ever heard of a single person who actually managed to buy anything from those guys? I tried a few times, and moved along when I got tired of the sound of crickets chirping.

er - no actually. But I did converse with K. Madsen ([email protected]) about the modules and DSP. He seemed responsive but this was a while ago.

Hypex is said to be releasing an SMPS at the end of the year. I'd wait to see what they come up with. It's bound to be good.

FWIW, from what I gather they do the amps for Bergantino for the IP series of cabs.
But I guess it's using an amp designed (with DSP as well) by Bang & Olfson.

My point is here, I'm speaking from a quality perspective.
Bergantino makes some of the best cabs out there. And the IP series is sick.

You would be/could be considered an OEM if you approached them as developing a new product and needed something to prototype with.
You would still be charged (duh!!) but it may allow you to get some product from them.

He never answered my emails, and a Yahoo account for a business throws a huge red flag for many of us I think. I'd still love to see and hear his products though, if they're actually real.

And expensive too, I'll bet! I came this close to going with the UcD700 when I was putting together my DIY bass head project, but the math just doesn't pencil in for me at this time. Hypex appears to be very DIY'er friendly though, much to their credit.

Probably just using B&O's output module.... the ICEPower.... which has many imitators,..... Tripath is putting out something similar... you may recognize the name if youve ever cracked open an Aguilar AG500....

The reason that sub plate amps are so cheap is that they don't have to deal with anything above 500 Hz. If you were to remove the low-pass filtering and run them full range 'nasty' wouldn't begin to describe how bad they'd sound.
