Play along with songs that are not in A=440?

I use Equalizer APO on Windows. It processes on the fly any sound that comes out of your computer. Spotify, YouTube – basically any audio your computer plays, as long as it's not using ASIO. One of its less-known features is that it can run a VST plugin of your choice. I loaded a pitch shifter and now I can pitch shift on-the-fly anything that plays! Right now I use an Eventide H949 VST because I happen to have a license. It works better than any free VSTs I could find, certainly well enough to play along to anything, but there might be something even better out there.

The pitch shifter VST effect that comes free with Reaper (which is a free download, and can be used for free unlimited, even after the trial period runs out. The DAW program will just have a 10 second wait added before you can use the program every time you open it, until you pay, after the trial period runs out), is actually pretty damn great too.

^yes, but it can't instantly pitch shift something you're streaming in another program. You have to plan ahead, download the song, process it. It kills spontaneity. Apart from that, sure, it will work fine. Most DAWs come with some form of pitch shifting.

I do believe you are free to use the pitch shifter VST in Reaper in whatever program that is able to run VST effects.

I might be wrong here, but I think that you are possibly either able to download and install the VST pack that comes with Reaper separately from their homepage, or it might even be as simple as to, once you have installed Reaper, to copy/paste the pitch shifter VST .dll file from the Reaper VST folder into the VST folder of the program you mention.

The pitch shifter in Reaper very much is a VST effect.

I never claimed it worked better, to be honest I have no idea if it does, my mention of it was just meant for general information and to the actual OP of this thread, who I do not believe own the Eventide pitch shifter VST.

For a free option that actually does work great, since you claimed you hadn't found a free one that worked properly.

I tried loading the Reapitch dll into Equalizer APO and it crashes, taking down the whole host... No bueno.

HOWEVER: I just discovered Inner Pitch by Auburn Sounds. It has a free version, and works very well on a full mix!
