Bass Emporium got one in. The thing looks stunning. The body had very deep contours which I really like. I haven't seen a precision with that deep of contours since the early sixties models. The color was certainly better than the last model (sparkle blue not lake placid). The pickguard was solid steel that was chromed (very shiny and way better than that smoke mirror guard on the last one). The neck was a bit of a baseball bat (which could be good or bad depending on your preference). The tone was quite good from what I could tell. The strings, as I expected, were awful (Steve must have genetically altered fingers to play with that much tension). It was a bit on the heavy side which I'm sure will vary with each bass. I have to say that overall I was very impressed with the amount of detail that went into this model. A huge step up from his last signature that is for sure.
I read in another thread that Steve asked fender to make his newest sig bass heavy, or something along those lines
Yea, Im kinda pissed that they put this one out. Because I HAVE to get it. I really wanted to pay off some debt first but I will have to bite the bullet and get it. Seriously it sounds fun to get a new bass but sucks because I have serious bouts of spontanous GAS.
I'm totally with you on this one man. I already have a 2 p basses, but I'm still fantasizing how awesome the sparkle blue and mirror pickguard would look under stage lighting.
List price I'm told is $1750. Mine arrived today and I couldn't get to the shop to pick it up because I've got company for the weekend, arrrrrrrgh!
It sounds like a very cool bass. The only thing that doesn't enthuse me is the finish. Sparkle finishes are not for me
I also played the new Steve Harris Bass at Bass Emporium, and for me it played great. I actually liked the strings which finally made since; as I began re-learning Maiden tunes. I tried the rotosounds 105 on a MIM 50's Bass but they moved around too much. The older I get, the harder I play, so I need a tighter tension. The SH 110's while quite large felt great and could run around the fretboard with ease. Note about strings: Lately I've noticed that the gauge on the packages(Rotosound) sometimes aren't what they actually are. You be amazed at the diferences. I look forward to blinding the crowd with this bass as the lights bounce off that awesome pickgaurd. As far as sound goes it does what it looks like, Steve's Bass. enjoy.
Sorry guys but the new steve harris bass is well overpriced. steve harris is my hero but there is no way i would pay a grand for a MIJ precision unless steve himself played it.
Think you can get it for around $1,399.00. Probably a little less. After seeing and playing one, it's built really well while also considering the upgrades in the Bridge and Pickups. But yeah... in this recession I understand.
