I think that if you put a hot pickup in that spot, how they sound to you will be based on whether you like the sound run through an active EQ (EBMM), or passive (Fleabass).

It doesn't surprise me at all that many would prefer the passive Fleabass sound to the active EBMM bass sound.

It's a well known fact that P's are better than J's, so if the Flea is better than P's, it by all accounts has to be better than J's.

I 2nd that. It may be hard to believe but I do own a flea bass, stingray H and jazz bass. The flea bass sounds the best in certain context. The jazz sounds traditional, the stingray cuts through with low end and high mids and ultra highs but lacks low mids. The fleabass has an awesome low mid punch that non of em can replicate.

The ebmm stingray has the best feel though.

and I bombarded by ebmm fanboys. They just cant accept that a less pricy bass sounds better than their precious rays

I just checked your thread and in no way is it true. I think what is true is that you may like the sound of your fleabass better, which is ok. Don't call others "fanboys" just because they have a different opinion. I don't think a Ray sounds better because its more expensive. I think a Ray sounds better because that it is a bass tone that I like...a lot! It has nothing to do with how cheap the flea bass is. If I wanted that tone, I would've bought the flea bass.

You could buy 9 SX basses for the same price as the fleabass that "are pefect right out of the box and sound as good as a sadowsky, or at least, the audience won't notice the difference".

I took the pickguard off mine and it really looked much better, not like a 'toy' like people have been saying. Why do you all hate it so much?

I think a lot of people are not able to separate their negative opinions of Flea the bass player and the Fleabasses.

That, and the price point of the first Fleabasses, $499, struck many as a little too high. By the time the $299 Street basses came out, it was too late, and opinions had been formed.

yeah thats true but I wish people would open their minds, give it a chance. When the Fleabass first came out I admit I didnt really dig it mainly because of the colour combos and only one pickup (I used to be persistent about having 2 pickups in a bass, Im still not that into those pastel colour combos either) but I opened my mind and gave it a chance and I f****** love it! could be the nicest bass Ive owned in a while. removing the pickguard helps the image too. really does.

For me it's the goofy color options.
The round pick guard.
The excessively flat bottom.
The location of the pickup.Should be a bit closer to the bridge IMO.

This is the same criteria I use for choosing any bass.

Ahem. As owner of 9 SX basses and no FleaBasses I can say without reservation that this statement is spot-on...er...well at least the last part is.

But there is no question that a FleaBass is a FAR better instrument for striking a guilarist-like pose on stage!
