Save some of the dark side for later. YMMV, personally whenever I don't have a fretless in the house I wish I did. When ever I don't have a fretted bass in the house I practice harder to make it work.

played my first fretless this weekend.

When getting my 1st bass in 2006 (?) after playing guitar since 1969 , I went with a MIM Fender Fretless Jazz. I’m up to 18 total basses including that original bass and 3 more Fretless. Love playing them all but agree Fretless are special.
If you had that much fun test driving a fretless, wait until you actually own one. It can open up an amazing new world!

Fender offered fretless P basses as early as 1970.
As others have said, it's addictive. I cover my fretless needs between a Fender Tony Franklin in LPB and this instrument, of which I'm particularly fond:

I use this fretless acoustic for the sheds, then switch to the fretted Ric for the fun.
I love how we all just used this post as an excuse to show off our fretless basses!
Ok, so I stumbled upon this video again. After playing fretless exclusively for 6 months I have a new appreciation for the sounds on display here.

i was checking the used adds and found a ibanez sr205 fretless 5 for 300$ im considering it,,any thoughts or opinions folks? cheers in advance..

I didn’t mention my 6 string/treble collection. Just added my 3rd SG to the family a couple weeks ago. #40. Plus the 18 basses. 58 total head count. I turned 60 in July I’ll need 2 more to have one for each year. Lol.
