Your drawing and description make me think of a 1980's fender jazz bass special , they came in all black , no pickguard etc BUT they did not have fret lines, it was a blank board.

My phone was a freebie 3 years ago and it does not even have a camera if it did it would probably be broken by now because everything else on my phone is.
btw there are alot of phones still sold new today without cameras
Yeah, the description sounds like a Power Jazz Bass Special. It has a battery door as it is active. If the preamp had been changed that would explain the 4 knobs. Possibly a defret, too.

There was a lot of chrome though.
.......and of course the four knobs. Could the one I saw come from the Fender Custom Shop (skunk works?)?

Yeah - those are the pups. And definitely four knobs - chrome too like the tuning machines.
The back of the neck was natural colored, although with a red knot in it close to the topside-viewable while you play it - and up near the head.
I don't see how it could have been de-fretted. It looked too good.
