CDweller is an airline pilot who happens to love bass. He and a few other musically motivated guys came to The Players School and in five days, totally changed their manner of playing, their understanding of music, and improved their ability to separate academia from art. In five days, they entered a much more musically able level of music. There isn't a bass event that I know of that could provide such a musical shot of improvement that my One Week Event could provide.
The idea is to take players at exactly their particular level of playing and musical understanding and help them to grow from there. No metronomes whatsoever, and all the guys improved in some regard in their sense of time. No tab at all, and in five days, guys were reading better. No technical lessons except to play in an efficient manner. Barely any emphasis on performance was encouraged at all. Take out the B.S. in learning and what do you get? You get 100% improvement from everybody who attended like they never did before they came to Clearwater, Florida. Their words, not mine, and I knew that if they did what I asked them to do, that they would find that significant musical improvement that they sought.
To be clear, these are not now bass monsters. We ARE talking about 5 days. But they are greatly improved and they know a lot more about how to continue this process, something that they couldn't do before they came to us. I am super-proud of all the guys. They did everything right; they messed up in practice (good thing to do), they played wrong notes and fixed them. And, Yes! There are bad notes in music and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Everyone plays wrong notes and when they found out that this wasn't something to shrink from, they saw them for what they really were, simply a momentary wrong representation of pitch or rhythm. That's it! What's the big deal if you make mistakes. Just fix them!
The five days went in a minute and these guys went home exhausted, I mean stumbling tired. Why? Because they learned music which is a mental procedure and these procedures can exhaust you if you do them right. The guys didn't attend a "feel-good atta boy" musical event. They came here to play, practice, write out music, and sounded EXACTLY THE WAY THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO SOUND! When you come here, either you are good at music or you are not. So what! Whatever level of ability that you have is where you will begin to grow from. The result is that that there isn't an event that can equal mine because mine is based on bass and music. If you have questions about this or have a problem with what I have said, then please ask me about them. I will be around for a couple of days.
Meanwhile, congrats to all the guys who came last week. You really were amazing in your obvious love for music..
