Double Bass Playing a library

I've played bars, restaurants, famous concert halls, biker rallies, stores, schools, hospitals, house parties, political fundraisers, international jazz festivals, small hippie fests, blues fests, reggatas, backyards, and funerals, but tonight is my first library. What strange places have you played?

SHHHHHHH
you'll get that a lot hehe

Our new manager got us a "gig' at a Sunday morning market in the city. We rock up,to find out it's upstairs on a tiny balcony overlookibg the food court.

Oh, and no drumkit allowed, and please play softly so as not to annoy the diners.

We split up shortly thereafter,as soon as we finished our debut CD lol sigh

On a couple of sheets of plywood out on the snow at the bottom of the Wizard chairlift at Blackcomb entertaining the long holiday lift line. Brrrrrrrrr
Nice! That reminds me of a gig at the Kensington Ice Rink - on a couple of sheets of plywood ON the ice! They had a little cafe set up in one corner of the rink where skaters could get a coffee or hot chocolate and a muffin and though a bluegrass band would be perfect! Crazy Canucks!

Arenas, Ballrooms, Bars, Saloons, & Taverns, Boats, Breweries, Churches, Colleges and Universities, Concert Halls, Convention Halls, Country Clubs, Dance Studios, Discos, Department Stores, On Flatbed Trucks in the Middle of Nowhere, Grocery Stores, Hotels, Law Firms, Lesbian Biker Bars, Mental Institutions, Military Bases and Outposts, Museums, Business Offices, Outdoor Festivals, Presidential Libraries, Prisons (Minimum, Low, and Medium Security Levels), Private Clubs, Private Homes, Recording Studios, Restaurants, Retirement Homes, Stadiums, Swingers Clubs, Synagogues, TV Studios, Wineries

That's off the top of my head. I may be missing something.

I've played a library several times, as a local one near Rhinebeck has a great music space. No amps allowed, seats about 60 people. Very nice little theatre type space with great acoustics. Haven't done it recently but those were nice mini-gigs.

As for oddities, I played a Barnes & Noble at a gig that was a book signing party for a guitarist who played with Bill Monroe. I forget his name - he's well known in bluegrass. But it was weird doing an upright bass gig in a Barnes & Noble.

The library I played was in New Paltz. Hey neighbor.

When I taught guitar/bass we had some students who played a concert at an indoor waterpark.
I'm not sure how well the sound carried, and the teenage boys were distracted at times.

And the guitars & basses did not like staying in tune due to the humidity in the place.
I think it fired the tuner as well--it never worked well after that--but it was the school's, not my own.

Let me guess - you opened with "I Could Write a Book", and closed with Charlie Parker's "Dewey Square".
Shhhhhhh!!!!!!

For me, no libraries yet but several bookstores; also ...
- like H-diddy, Hair Salon. But this one is a regular hair salon-cum-Speak Easy and I've played there many times and will do so again;
- under various overpasses such as at a container terminal – under a HUGE overpass for cars/trucks/trains.
- Poop deck of a Chinese sailing junk;
- For about a week-and-a-half... a Large shopping mall, dressed as an elf, wheeling my doublebass along whilst playing Christmas carols up and down escalators... not recommended, as it's hard on the note-stopping wrist (wrong angle of bass while wheeling it), also one of the escalator's moving handrail thing-a-ma-bobs snapped my bridge in half;
- Jamming on the various ferries here;
- on a Sampan;
- Heli-pad on a cruise ship;
- Football (soccer) pitch;
- TINY Pedestrian alley (5'-7' wide) for an Irish festival;
- "Sitting Out Area" between two MTR (subway/lightrail) entrances;
- Beaches;
- Graveyard;
- Entertained the queues for cable car/gondola;
- Entryway to government offices
- building rooftop

Probably a few others I'm forgetting, but not noteworthy or I'd have remembered them.
