Playing behind your head

This has it all.

Arthur playing behind his head. Me playing behind my head. Arthur playing with his teeth. Me watching Arthur play with his teeth. A female from the audience sitting right by the camera, talking about how amazed she is by the whole thing.

An audience of young kids, (mostly under 30,) really enjoying a long, (over 11 minutes!) song featuring tons of guitar, from 1969.

Is this at a mall?

Ever since the first bass player discovered that you could play a root AND a 5th there has been a group crying about these new fangled ideas. Many people in the audience don't even know there is a difference between bass and guitar.

Ignore the whiners and have fun. Help put the show back into show business.

I agree. To me, it's nothing more than self indulgent nonsense. I would rather be known as a good player than a flashy one.

I'd rather be known as a flashy player than not known at all.

def scene specific. would this fit at a cover band show? yes. would this fit at a original post-metal show? by the gods no.

I disagree entirely. Just because no one from Neurosis has done it doesn't mean you can't. Just keep your hood down and look depressed while you're doing it and it'll look appropriate. The audience will be too busy looking at your pedalboard to notice how you're playing anyway.

Stage antics are all about confidence. Not cockiness. Confidence. If you don't know the difference, you shouldn't attempt them - just keep looking like every other band.

Strangely enough I play the latter genre and do this every show. It might make some musicians groan, but if you look like you are having fun it opens the audience up. As with anything practice. Choose a specific part of a song where you feel its right, and just practice getting up there. Remember what fret your pointer finger is on and use that to get a frame of reference. It can get hard on 6 string to remember what string you are playing, but if you can play solid without looking at the fretboard, you will be fine. Don't understand all the hate. Do all of you just stand there emotionless as the crowd mosh's ?
