Double Bass Playing over a D/E chord?

Seems like a pretty typical slash chord application, even without seeing the chart. As far as playing it, well, I'd make sure to play the E at least once under that chord

So on a funky vamp like that, I'd play either E-E-E-E or E-D-C#-C or variants thereof. Just hammering away on the E will satisfy 90+% of what the dancers want, and that's a dance groove.

The ONE is the key for a bass line on a vamp like that.
