Playstation Network is screwing up all the big PS3s

Uh, we're talking videogames here. You should seriously chill out.

I didnt start a thread asking if Xbox Live was better than PSN. I started a thread to just talk about the recent crash having to do with older PS3 systems, and to set up a place where users could maybe come and gather intel on how to remedy the situation. The reason I said what I said was so that this thread wouldnt end up like all the other videogames threads, that is, a b**** fest amongst a bunch of virgins about whos hardware is better than the other guys.

I suppose thats what I get by trying to stop the impossible though.

Back OT: Has anyone heard anything about any updates or fixes to the firmware?

Should be done with now, no update required, like someone said it was just a bug with the clock. I remember something similar happening to all the original zunes a while back, I think it was around new years they all just didnt function for a day. gotta love technology

Um, that argument was in the first 2 posts of the thread. Didnt know that could qualify as "getting the last word in," but whatever.

Also, I dont let comments or problems "slide," I address them head on. When it was the first post in the thread that had the potential to completely de-rail it, I had to say something. If it was page, 50, then ya, maybe I would let it "slide."

But yet, here we are :rollno:

This is the last I will say on that matter.

My PS3 is back up and working

A few years ago, I was thinking to myself...hmm I could buy an Xbox 360...but based on the failure rate, let's avoid that...hmm incould buy a PS3 for (what was then) a ridiculous price. Or, I could buy a Wii so that I can play Maroo games. Wii it is!

Seriously, so Your system can stop working due to an error by Sony? Essentially they've proven their ability to remotely stop their systems from working. Wow.

From what I understand of it, the problem stems from a programming error surrounding recognizing leap years on the internal clock. This can screw up saved games files because the computer will try to read the files from the date you saved, but that date is wrong due to the error, so certain values won't match up in the save file. Tiny programing problems can compound and prevent saved games from working.

Sony recognizes the problem and there should be a patch out to fix it today. With any luck, this will be a non-issue by tomorrow or later today.

I'm a little confused by the fan boy arguments, especially from a system that originally had a 25%+ hardware failure rate on launch. Red ring of death anyone? The Xbox is not without problems, and apparently neither is the Ps3.

I have an original 60 gig as do two of my other friends. Two other friends have the Slim and one of them works fine, the other works intermittently.

Apparently it's only in the US, as far as I know. As I can connect to the AU network, Japan, etc.

It happened to me in the UK as well - it's all across the world. It was the internal clock not recognising that there was no leap year, this year.

I wasn't connected to the network, but it just stopped me playing the game I was trying and seems to have lost Trophies on several games.

I can get it to play other games - but I worry about saved data etc. as I was hoping to play through the expansion packs for Dragon Age when they come out, with my current saved character!? :hmm:
