Owner said it' s German bass. Is it really? Plywood?? And around what year?

Also is it worth it to buy it?

I don't know much, but it looks German to me and it looks like it's almost worthless. The top is cracked at the f-holes (on both sides I think) so it needs repair.

I guess if you needed a beater bass and you think you get get this playable on your own, it might be worth a hundred bucks.

Otherwise you'd be better off purchasing an Eberle from bassesonline.com. You're in Ontario? The Eberle I bought worked out to about $1500 CDN after delivery.​

Heinl got back to me regarding the estimation on how much it would cost to repair the bass.

They said that the top needs to be replaced and would cost $1000 easily.

I get a lot of compliments on the sound of my Eberle ply too, though I must admit I think many of those folks are grateful just to have anyone with a DB in the mix at the jams as I'm still pretty inexperienced as a player.

Bassesonline.com also has hybrid and carved Eberle basses for sale. I saw somewhere they're almost out of the plywood ones. For $850 (US) + shipping + setup cost I think you'd be way ahead with an Eberle ply than spending a grand getting the bass in the photos repaired.

I've only seen/played the one, my own, which is carved BTW. My friend lent me his $900.00 chinese bass that had another $800.00 worth of work done, and it was still awful. I think you could do a lot worse than bassesonline, and once they're gone, that's it, except resales of course.

I regularly play a Christopher hybrid as well (house bass)- it's certainly adequate, but I'm told it doesn't sound as good as mine.

If I was starting again, first I would find the teacher, then the bass.

I don' t think I' ll be buying the bass on picture above. The guy is selling it for $1200 and he said that he' s firm with the price.
