Just bought it from Ebay, not so sure what model it is... On the bottom side of the pickups is a sticker with what looks like the roman numeral II followed by a CE. I also checked it with meter. The meter won't even read it unless set to the 2M range and then it reads .905 (905K?) Do you think it's broken? Any comments are much appreciated. Thank you!
Most EMG pickups are active, so measuring with a multimeter won't work. the output have an amplifier that needs power. Easiest way to test them is to wire them up. The red wire is power, black is ground and the white one is signal out. look here for a wiring diagram: http://www.emgpickups.com/content/wiringdiagrams/P_P5_P6_0230-0107A.pdf The model you have seems to be an older type since you don't have a connector at the cable between the two housings.
I don't know why you are confused. It's an older EMG P. They only had one model back then. "II" is the date, which is "99" (1999). The CE mark means "Conformité Européenne" in French, or "European Conformity." As Smilodon said, you can't read the coils since there is a preamp in there. The red wire goes to the battery. They are a nice modern sounding P pickup. Lee Sklar used those on a majority of the recordings he has done.
