PLEASE HELP WITH RECORDING ON PC PROBLEM

Ok well this has been a problem now for several years, i just kept putting it off. I always got around it, but now i am FED UP!!! I use an HP PC. Pavilion m7570n. Problem is that i record myself live on either my logitech cam, or like windows movie. However, when i do, i am getting a clicking sound, that is VERY ANNOYING. Some times low in volume, sometimes high. I think the harder i play, the louder it gets. Before this began, before i did any recording on pc, i went to guitar center and said this. What do i need to do recordings on my pc? They said this Saffire 14 (focusrite) So I bought it. hooked it up. Only hook up is firewall cable going to the back of tower, and the plug for outlet. Was this the right gear that i needed? Now i hook my guitar up to a Boss gt-6b, and into the front of the saffire. Is there a setting on the pc that is causing a disturbance? I am at my witts end, and need help. Alls i wanna do is record on logitech, or win movie. I would have gone out a long time ago to get imovie, but no money at moment. Please tell me it is a setting on my pc. very annoying clicking. ANd as far as i believe, all settings for audio are correct. Thank you for any help.

If using a reputable interface with its own dedicated drivers like the focusrite then asio4all will likely cause more problems than solve.

It may be the buffer size set too low, that'll cause clicking, but the symptoms you describe are not typical of that, especially as it is the same fault on different devies. It would really help if you posted a sample of the sound, an audio clips worth a thousand words!

Your focusrtie IS a soundard, as is the inbuilt computer input you were using before, no need to buy anything else!

lol this is a common dilemma for a lot of folks, the reason behind it is because your bit rate and/or buffer on your camera is either too high or too low for the PC

in order to fix it you need to either access the control panel for your camera and adjust those 2 things

play with it, until its gone (but remember the lower you go the more latency you get)


if that consists try to update your driver.

Normally, yes but he gets the same result with different devices and more importantly he says it is dependant on how hard he plays.. Thats not a buffer issue, the buffer spits out the same errors when it looses cycles no matter what you play!

I think its important to hear an audio clip, it could be anything from clipping the inputs of your devices, wrong driver selected, bad driver, bad clock, even a bass issue. it could still be too low a buffer as well but the symptoms the OP mention suggest a number of the above in different ways... could be a lot of things but a quick clip will clarify everything.

To the OP, it may be a driver, to update you should go to the focusrite website, click on support or downloads or similar and try and find the link to the latest saffire 14 driver. It'll just be an updated version of the driver you installed from the cd when you first bought the interface.
