Please set me straight - Roadworn P neck finish question

Hello TB land. I hopt this is in the right place.

On the Fender Roadworn series basses, they use gloss nitro with wear through. Now is that bare wood on the worn spots? Doesn't that expose the maple to warpage from humidity shifts? Or are the necks treated somehow before the nitro is applied, so when the nitro wears away, the wood underneath is still protected somehow?

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any help anyone might have to offer.

Finish will not stop a neck from warp or twist, finish generally protects the wood from human mistake and wear more than anything. Finishes breathe, so if exposed to elements, the neck isn't impervious if finished. The roadworns are made to feel like an old used, played instrument. The lack of finish leads to developing of skin oil and dirt build to create a relic look. That's about all, I wouldn't worry too much. That's why you see 40 year old basses that are worn, nasty, dirty, and still straight as an arrow.

Thank you so much for the info.

That is good news to my ears. I just picked up a RW P and I absolutely love it. I only hated the sticky nitro gloss on the neck, so I lightly took some 600 wet/dry to it and now it's quite nice, similar to a G&L satin in the already worn spots. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to apply any kind of oil or laquer to those spots to keep this beauty straight.

Thanks again, much appreciated!
