Plush bass amps?

I managed to change the tubes without removing the chassis from the box. I mentioned removing the chassis from the box to do a once over of the amplifier; wipe down smoke soot, dust and tighten the transformers hardware (that thing was rattling around, I still am amazed at how big it is). I measured my RCA EL 34's at 4.25" from the plastic key hole tip to top of the tube.

I have a couple of 6AV5GA tubes in boxes and those seemed to be at the 3.75" you were referring to. I think there's plenty of room to put some bigger tubes in there if needed too. When I pick up a set of 6550's that'll be the defining factor.

Thank you for the elaboration on the tube sizes.

Tonight a buddy of mine who plays bass will use this PLUSH 4KG at rehearsal. After practice we will be able to determine if it is up to par to play out with for bass. The bassist is used to playing solid state gear, so I hope that little bit of tube lag doesn't turn him off. He plays a GK 800RB and is used to the fast response of it.

It's been a few years, so I'm not sure. Maybe there was room, but I was afraid of a tight tube socket suddenly "letting go" while I was applying a lot of pressure, and then the top of the tube would slam into the top of the cab. I honestly don't remember the particulars.

I just purchased a 1970 PLUSH 4000G.

It will be nice to not have that tuck 'n roll on there anymore too
.

...

Dude, removing the diamond tuck upholstery of that Plush amp is as bad as the Fender I once bought, a Bassman with red tuck n roll on it (sacrilege!).

I took the amp home and removed it to find the original tweed.

I was Kustom guy in the day (blue sparkle K200 w/3 15 CTS's) but mucho respect for the Plush stuff.

I feel you dude. I'm not going to "remove" the tuck n' roll tolex and destroy a gem. Rather I'll build a separate cabinet and finish it so that the cabinet has at the very least a handle to pick it up from, as well as a modern facade.

I'm definitely keeping the original box for any possible rehousing in the future.

WHELL! I feel MUCH better now! (A quote from Gomez Adams in the Adams Family TV show.):D

Shall I walk down the street to "The House of Guitars" and take a picture of a stack of "Plush" and "Kustom" tuck'n'roll gear? I wanna say they had 7 or 8 different examples the last time I was there.

I had a green one back in the 70's no idea which model but sold it and stacked a Traynor YBA-1 and 3 on a couple 2-15 cabs.

No way I can rember the model but I had a green one back in the 70's

No, you will just cause me more GAS ('specially if they had a K200 head and two 2 15 cabs in WHITE sparkle....might sell a kidney...)

Besides, they always sound better in my memory than in real life. BUT THEY SURE WERE KEWL IN THE DAY!:bassist:

I'm glad you're okay with my decisions. It's good to know other people nerd out as much as I do. I love old gear like this.

Yep, thats a nice selection of Acoustic stuff....if a 360 comes along I might have to check on the cost of dialysis...

Had a 1060-S back in the day, white with 2-15 cab. Sold it for an Ampeg B25 in 1974. This one came up for sale here on TBF had to have it. Retubed the power tubes and added a 12AT7 in the preamp. Run the head through an Epifani PS115
sounds good. At level 4 the amp is pretty damn loud anything past 5 is distorsion. You could play a small bar with this amp no problem.

I mainly play guitar, so my Acoustic gear has always been leaning more towards 10" and 12" enclosures.

I have been looking for a 360-301 or a 370-301 to have as a bass rig, but they're just out of my price range. Those 301 cabinets are nice, especially with the stock 18" driver.

It never ceases to amaze me just how loud these old Acoustic Control amps get. It's unbelievable. I know being loud isn't everything, however to feel these the power coming from the enclosures is true power.

Did you see that Link Removed is making the 360-301 again? None of that overseas branded Acoustic crap, but the REAL deal American made equipment.

I love the saturated break-up of my 4000G. It's so enchanting.

OK, I won't tell you they had a dozen variations of Plush and Kustoms but none were in white so you're good.:hiding:

Only ever heard one once. Ron Wood was using a couple of them when he was playing bass for the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart when I saw them at Pirates World around...1970?

Probably 1969 as Ron left JBG after they came back from the 1069 U.S. tour but not before he played on three tracks with the JBG for Donovan, noteably "Barabajagal (Love Is Hot)". Mickie Most released that in 1969.
