Poetry, and free verse

Immortal gods,
I crave no pelf
I pray for no man
but myself

Grant I may never prove so fond,
To trust man on his oath or bond
or a harlot who is a-weeping
nor a dog who seems a-sleeping
or a keeper with my freedom
or my friends if I should need 'em

Amen! so fall to'ot
Rich men sin,
and I eat root.

Tom, yeah I have a lot of stuff actually.

When I get home I'll put up a free form poem I wrote for my son in 1993.

Any update on this dude, I'd love to read!

I understand I got clinical depression, and a number of other conditions.

I'll try to pick out some and PM'em to you by tommorrow I have 7 notebooks full of the stuff.

Ahh William Butler Yeats my favorite line by him is "Those I fight I do not hate and those I defend I do not love". I did an essay on it in High School senior year.

Yeats is a genius, Irish Airman is my favourite poem by him, closely followed by The Second Coming. Fantastic poetry

HOW you got all that to rhyme is beyond me, fantastic! Reads in such a solemn tone, I don't know whether it's the dark imagery or the archaic language, but it just seems to elevated, it's very good!

So you like the poems I sent?

Got anymore you wanna share?

Replied! Apologies again dude! None yet, but 4 new songs written, YEWWWW :bassist: I'll get writing again some time soon, no doubt. I have a lot of reading to do, applying to a few universities, including Oxford ( :help: ) in september/october, so my knowledge needs to be as broad as possible!

Yeah I kinda figured from the PM reply you gave you aren't the typical 17 year old.
Oxford and all.

I honestly had to look up the definition on a few words on the PM you sent me. (Ha Ha)
I boasted about reading college level books as a mid and high schooler too bad I didn't keep at it when at college Ha Ha.

Well I'm not there yet, it's very optimistic of me to apply, but my English teacher prompted me to!

Hahaha no way! Oh I love love love reading, have been since a little 'un, my fondest (weirdest?) childhood memory is of the first bed time book that I REALLY kept coming back to...

...the household encyclopaedia hahahahahaha

Great stuff for 17-years-old, keep writing. It can be a lifelong passion that will help keep you sane through the bumps in life.

Thank you! :) I fully intend to :hyper:

Poetry.com...post it on there, you get reviews and a publish date that you can use for copyright , also it's where all my stuff is

Oooh that site is fantastic, what's your username on that?

I don't really like poetry. I remember in high school having a text book written by some poetry snob talking about how deep and meaningful poetry is. I started reading the poetry and it had meaning, surely, but wasn't very deep, and the meanings weren't profound. Poetry is a great way for a person to discuss things that aren't really important or robust enough for longer verse. The more poetry I read and write the more I see it is really meant for the author and rarely for the reader.

twas watching the tele
on a fine monday evenin
when i spotted two dogs
they were a breedin'

it was quite the site
i must say
but in reality
these dogs were gay

not that it matters, its love of course!
but what made them do it? what is this "source?'

Someday i will find out, my mind is still lurkin
about why these two dogs
were licking each others McGurkin!

I wandered lonely as a clod,
That slurps low under sewers and streets,
When all at once I saw a god,
A host, of golden deep fried treats;
Beside the scum, beneath the whores,
Gobbling and spitting in the doors.

Demented as the brains that fry
And sizzle on the lighted way,
They lurched in ever-churning lie
Along the chorus line so gay:
Ten million saw the Grateful Dead,
Toss their lunch with dripping head.

The pimps beneath them belched; but then
Out-did the poorly dressed in Goth:
A plumber could not milk a hen,
Or turn a pumpkin to a Sloth:
I smoked and drank but little light
What idiots were not so bright:

For sometimes when my couch is bent
In vacant lots or alleys drab,
They dangle on that crumpled dent
Which mourns the partridge on the slab;
And then my stomach makes such noise,
And lumbers with the ten foot boys.

There is nothing like pie
the joy that it brings
When made by an elder
it overwhelms all other things

The smell of the fruit
The crisp of the crust
we eat on Thanksgiving
it is definitely a must

oh how the simple things in life
we all love and share
from pies, plums, and cookies
to the midnight air

the things about life, we all love to "taste"
from pizza to ice cream, and of course tooth paste

Well maybe not toothpaste, but you get what im saying
so many wonderful "tastes", can i ask what your making?

This one sucks, in comparison to gay dogs :(

hell they all suck lol

Spittin some chew on the floor
might of got some on that door
the door on the ground, thats what i meant
commited a sin, gotta go repent
just kiddin folks thats a dumb idea
im with my dog, her name is mia
she barks alot at passing cars
its a shame she cant come to the bar
my life is shameful, all i do
is chew tobacco and drink some boos
who would of guessed a guy like me
would wind up livin in a tree
a tree house, is what i mean
i need a liver and a new spleen
"Oh you have no insurance, thats ok
take a number and come this way
Have a seat and wait all day
to go complain and not get your way"
Man life is tough, but thats ok
ill be back on my feet, i hope someday
it will all work out, something needs to change
why did i become so goddam strange!
i should of done better in school
but now im a redneck stupid fool
i drive a 1980 ford pickup truck
but it will break down soon enough
the going is already gettin tough
only got a few dollars left for me
but i hope one day thats history.
its a fools hope, i must say
what made me get this way?
i had it all, but i lost enough
just hope someday i can give a f**k
