Pointless thread #47313 - As American as what now?

How about this one: "What, you want your cake and eat it too?" What kind of a stupid thing is that to say? What else am I going to do with cake? Make it into a hat and walk in the Easter parade?

You say that, but...

I think the title "Pointless Thread..." was a good tip to who the author was [/rimshot]

Goddam.... I don't mind the pointless thread association being made with me as I do enjoy to ramble on about inconsequential things but I have to say, I have started probably no more than half a dozen threads in my time here. I find it hard to believe most people remember them that well. I know I don't.....

Pointless posts? Sure. Threads? I don't know.

How about this one: "So, to make a long story short." Okay, you have just admitted that it is a long story plus I am in stupor from listening to the insipid details of your gall bladder operation for the last 20 minutes and now you are going to make it short? Not possible unless you have a time machine in your pocket and can go back and start over.

I know, I don't want the cake if i'm not gonna eat it. A cake is a pointless thing unless it's inside of me. Who wants to just have a cake to look at it? If those people exist, I don't want to know them.

If it rained cats and dogs i'd be weeping everytime it rains. Unless the catds and dogs would land safe and sound. In which case, yay, kitties. But then there's already enough of them around that are not being properly taken care of.

I used to volunteer at a local SPCA. Once I go in and I ask so what can I do. They say well we have like 30 cats that have just been brought in from this hoarder woman. A lot of them arent properly socialized. Ok so..what do you need me to do? Oh just go in there and you know...pet them..play with them, socialize them. WHAT!!?!? are you serious!? So I spent like two hours doing just that. Took many pictures. Best "job" ever (well not getting paid but you know) It is really weird and partly creepy to walk into a room with 30 cats just looking at you, most of which are swarming you for food. But it is also great fun. I just hope they found most a home...

Nice, this belongs in the mid life rut thread.

I heard this on the radio; not sure if it is true or not, but it makes sense. The saying originally went "eat your cake and have it too,"
as in someone who wants to eat cake and still have the cake he ate after he ate it. Whether or not that's how it was meant to be said, the expression finally makes sense to me for the first time in forever

Haha I would love to see those pictures.

Just a note from a non-American...

There are certain "news" stories that come up from time to time, that we Australians consider could happen "only in America".

Things that fall into this category include, suing big corporations for serving hot coffee too hot, eating competitions, surfing dogs and people who collect fruit that looks like Jesus.

Keep up the good work America, you make owning a 50" television justifiable.

Anything to distract you from the reality of an entire continent/island that is actively trying to kill you.
