Double Bass polished fingerboard ? (copied from EUB list by Francois)

I'm getting to grips with my NS CR4MG (graphite fingerboard) but I'm fighting it a bit when my hands warm up, as it becomes harder to slide my fingers up the board and the strings (I'm using Hybrid Helicores instead of the std. strings).

One thing I have noticed is that the finish of the board is pretty poor by any standard you'd care to apply, lots of sanding marks and not all in the same direction.

I'm tempted to give it a sand to a fairly high degree, not to a high polish, but maybe 1000 grit or so.

Any better suggestions ? Fast Fret perhaps ?

First off, I have no experience with CF boards, but I would treat it as though it were wood and go back to 600 or maybe 400 if that will take out the existing scratches. Then work it up through 1500 paper and move into the finer Micromesh grits until you reach fingerboard Nirvana.

Use a longish cork-backed sanding board to keep it straight and bump free.

Obviously use long, even strokes to maintain the shape of the board and rember that its not how hard you push, its how many times!
