Poll: Favorite nut width on a 4 string?

What's your favorite nut width? It seems like most basses these days are A or B width, doesn't anybody like C width anymore?

Jazz necks just seem to work for me. Even though I have big hands, the narrower neck just feels right to me.

Shorter distance = faster and cleaner imo. This goes for string spacing + action. Low action + jazz bass string spacing = less distance to travel between notes.

For 4s 1.625" is my favorite. I'll tolerate a 1.5" but can't adjust to a 1.75" P bass neck. 5 and 6 string widths seldom come close to P bass specs, so I'm good w/ em.

You left out the original "A" nut width of the Jazz bass which was 1-7/16" (1.4375") and also my personal favorite.

I prefer 1-3/4 C nut width, but the neck has to be thin and flat... no Louisville sluggers, please. I do have 1-5/8 B widths on my B-E-A-D, Warrior and Sigma ABG basses. I like the extra flatness you can get in the profile with the extra width. My hands are small too... go figure.

I don't necessarily agree that thinner is faster. There is more than just width that playes into it...... neck depth, fingerboard radius, fret size, etc. Personally, I find myself faster (and cleaner) on wider necks with a tighter fingerboard radius, and a thin front to back profile.

Don't have a favorite. I adapt easily, and suck regardless of nut width.

Jazz necks don't feel right to me, too skinny. P's a bit wide but nothing is too
wide once you play 5 string basses.

Raised on a Precision from way back in 1964. So a P just feels right and a J has strings too close together. And, for me, 5 strings with similar string spacing as a P. Just me, but it's more about the string spacing than the neck width per se.

For 4 strings, I adore the traditional P-bass neck.

For five strings, I like the way MMSR does their necks.

+1! My 73 jazz has this width and it is smokin' fast!
