JW, my band is trying to get experience so we are planning on playing a bunch of open mics and wanted to know if there was a standard/acceptable way to dress. How would YOU do it?

If you're looking to get gigs by going to an open mic, dress like you would if it was your gig.

Edit, didn't vote as this is not a yes or no question.

Like any other public appearance or job interview, dress like you want the spot.

I voted Yes ... since the law says you must be dressed ;)

But seriously ... open mics are pretty informal, but it's a good time to polish your bands look. Dress for the gigs you hope to get, i suppose.

Everyone knows you're supposed to dress like a Juggalo at open mics! :woot:

Thanks guys. That's what I was thinking (not the juggalo thing). We need live footage of our band for a facebook page, so I think we should be dressed sorta nice at least

I voted yes, as I imagine turning up naked might not get you the sort of experience you're probably looking for.
    Or it might...

If you're going to undress, you'd better be worth looking at.

That said, I'd attend the open mic as a pure spectator and see what everyone else does.

Semi-casual at most. You don't need to go overkill. Maybe a nice dress shirt, good pair of jeans and clean shoes.
  17. A meat dress would give an edge.

Dress one notch higher than the clientele at any gig, no matter what.
