Poll: Maple or Rosewood Neck?

Very nice, Simon.If nothing else, my preference for maple boards probably stems from the fact that my first bass (a '85 Japanese Maple P-Bass) had one. I do appreciate the bright attack and clarity of notes, considering double-stops, chords, and melodic playing is part of what I like to do. If I were in a Blues or old-school R&B band, I'm sure I'd go for rosewood.
Does anyone notice the tactile difference between rosewood and maple? Rosewood has pores, which I can feel, particularly when interjecting vibrato or bending. Maple is much harder and gives a positive reaction to those nuances. Pretty picky, I understand, but ultimately it's about comfort- sometimes the little things add up to the whole experience.

+1 to everything Murphbass said. my first bass was maple, and i've loved maple boards since then. i definitely feel a difference in the two. maple just seems... easier to me. more comfortable.

15+ back breaking lbs. Early Schecter and I suspect that its weight is what has kept it in such good shape over the years. Just put a Badass II on it and it sounds like the hammer of the gods. Sustain for days. You could go and grab a bite and it would still be sustaining. Don't touch it, don't even look at it. It can't be played.

I knew it weighed a lot...Wow, I thought those pick-ups looked familiar. Early Monster-Tone I beleive. Is the tone or volume pot a push-pull? I have a pair of J-Bass Monster-Tone pickups. They sounded amazing when they were working. They're stacked dual coil pickups and the the neck pickup has a dead coil. But they truly were amazing. )-(
*Volume is push/pull but in the interest of not derailing this thread my favorite fingerboard and my vote went to rosewood. In fact I don't have a single maple fingerboard out of 9 guitars.
I'd go for Maple every time, given the choice.

I think it is totally subjective, but I prefer maple because I actually like the fingerboard clack... I play without a pick and it sounds more aggressive when I want it to.
