In a recent thread about GAS, I noticed a lot of folks on here discussing the number of basses they’ve purchased in the last 6-months. But I don’t recall seeing a commensurate number of NBD posts, during that time.

And I was like, “Wait! Are there people who don’t post a New Bass Day post for every purchase?!?”

In the past, whenever I’ve purchased a new instrument, I’ve always posted an NBD, even when I knew I wasn’t going to keep it. It was probably annoying to some. But I enjoy sharing the experience. I feel like it adds to the database of basses on TB (databass??). In fact, I frequently get DMs from folks who are looking at an instrument that I had previously posted about. It’s cool to be able to give some perspective.

But also, sharing an NBD post is just fun. It’s cool to hear about gear, celebrate with the OP, and inevitably roll our eyes at the person who posts about all the things they hate about your new bass.

Oh, and the dopamine hit is nice too.

Just curious… when you buy a new bass, do you post an NBD every time? If you don’t, would you please start? Everyone here likes gassing over basses. Don’t deprive us of that joy… lol.

A couple of months ago, I purchased a new Ibanez SR4500DST. The one I received is special in that it is serial number 1 (verified by Ibanez).

I didn’t post a NBD because I am more interested in composing and playing jazz than I am about equipment. To me, gear is just a collection of tools. The music is the important part.

Perhaps I different than the average bear.

I put "most times" because I think I joined TB a few years before I started posting NBD, but I have been since then.

Of course, I so rarely buy basses, that's literally been twice (last year and 2018), but still ...

No. I enjoy watching others' including yours though. I am always surprised at your raving reviews and then seeing it listed for sale the following week (black Sandberg VM5, various Lulls, Bluesman Vintage, Music Man Stingray 5, Custom Shop Fender P(s), etc...)!!

Occasionally I will post in the Club threads of a particular make, so there is that.

I think I did one NBD thread, many years ago.

I have posted in various Talkbass Club threads on basses. Nothing too wordy or over-the-top... just "hey, I found one of these". With me, it's usually something weird or obscure.

I don’t post new bass pix because I don’t think what I’ve acquired the last few years is very interesting. I don’t have any klunkers but I don’t own any high end Dingwalls, Alembics or Sadowskys.
I just posted a NBD related to a cheap Squier bass. For me a NBD post is a report from a user as to how it looks, feels, plays & sounds. It gives information to others who may be interested in the same thing.
