Poll: Your new bass needs new strings - Flatwound or Roundwound?

You walk out of Guitar Center/Local Music Store with your new Fender Jazz Bass. You can't wait to get home and play the beast with the rest of your band*. You get in the car and suddenly remember - wait, I need new strings!!! You rush back into the store and get a new set of (Insert brand here) ______rounds.

Did you buy flatrounds or roundwounds???

Does your bass tone require a bright high end? Like for slap tone, or bright pick tone? If yes, go for rounds. Otherwise, flats are pretty cool for more styles than a lot of people realize.

I didn't walk out of GC or any shop with a Jazz bass.

Seriously though, I'm not a flats kinda guy, so when I buy new strings they're rounds or stainless steel.

I love a big, fat sound, so flats for me. Unfortunately, I can't actually afford any, so I can't recommend a brand

Flats (D'Addario Chromes)...especially when playing in a band.

Personally, I like rounds on my J Bass. But then again I modded it with different pickups and a different tone control. With the tone all the way down, I can get a flatwound type sound. Plus since it's a push/pull on-on tone pot, pulled up it rolls off mids for slap tone or just to roll off the mids.

Rounds, unless it is fretless. I don't care for the sound of flats for the sound I want.

If it was a P bass though, thats a different matter.

Since you mentioned a Jazz, I'd go with TI Jazz Flats. At least that's what my plans are when I put the next set on.

I'm prefering nickel rounds on my Jazz-type bass (jaguar) at the moment and leave the flats for my P

Flats on my slabs ... DR Hi-Beams or D'Addario Chromes. Rounds on my acoustic/electric Tacoma. Flats on my double bass ...

I got a variety

I usually use Rotosound Swingbass 66LDs (45-105s) on my Jazz Bass but Im trying out
some DR Red Devils Light Coated Rounds (40-100s) and so far I am liking the more subdued tone and the guage really brings more bends and vibratos easier for me

I just got some Fender 9120s Nylon Tapewounds (58-110s)to replace the D'Addario flats that came on my SX fretless. IM gonna give em a try tonite

My washburn Status came with Status Hot Wires Black Nylons (40-105) which seem at first glance to be a higher quality nylon string than the Fenders. Love how these tame the trebly Status pickups. If you like that sound than rounds will bring it out but these nylons with a little tweaking with the pup pan control and tone knob will creat a very smooth and deep sound
