Polysics: can anyone identify the bass please?!

I have wanted one of these for a very long time. Never had the opportunity, though. Akiko Noma of GO!GO!7188 used to play a silver P+J, but nowadays she plays single pickle non-reverse thunderbirds.

I believe Fumi had a 550 (p-j). Those are even harder to find. I see the j versions every now and again, but I have yet to see a 550 for sell.

Yes Jimmy, Kayo was the backbone of that band. It would be very very hard to replace her.

well... I can tell right off the bat that Fumi-san's bass is a Yamaha SBV-550, she has 2 of the suckers... one green and the other red, how the hell she managed to get 2 of 'emm, let alone 1 I will never know because I have spent the past 3 weeks scouring the interwebs, classifieds and music shops for an SBV-550... I found 1... but it was in a really rough way... the neck was backbowed, the pickups had been damaged and the headstock broke from the neck... the guy still wanted £400 for it!!?!?!? If I had the money and the patience, that bass would be sitting in my lap right now with a fixed headstock and working electrics... man I hate budgets!!! that's the last bass I will ever see for sale of that caliber... but I have a bass coming from Yamaha that's apparently around about equal for a fraction of the price...

EDIT: I posted in 2012 about the bass... But I found out that you can get a similar tone from a BB Series bass similar to the one in my profile pic as of posting this. If you want the distortion to go with it, you'll need:

1: Akima & Neos Multi-Tube Injector (Extremely hard to find outside of Japan)

2: Ampeg SVT-VR or Akima & Neos tube head and a Marshall 4X10 cab (The amp is hard to find outside of Japan)

If you want to get CLOSE to that bass tone, then the BB424/425 series basses will deliver the punch and mids, but I so far haven't found a substitute for the distortion that Fumi gets from the Multi-Tube Injector. The closest candidates are the Tronographic Rusty Box and the Tech21 SansAmp BassDI. Both of which wil ltake some serious dialling in to get them to sound just like you'll be after.
