Sure, you may find some good ones, if you look hard enough, and try before you buy, you can find a really good value. (The same can be said with any of the other budget basses out there).

I'd be comfortable ordering any MusicMan online without trying it first, just because the quality is a bit higher.... I wouldn't take that risk with an OLP... even if it is just a couple hundred bucks... Unless maybe if I was buying from someone on TB who I felt could give an honest assesment of the bass.

Well that's true. In fact, a lot of people in the reviews have said that they needed setup and even some fret filing out of the box, but that once that was done, they were awesome sounding and great playing.

I'd be okay to spend another hundred or so to get everything just perfectly set up if I could get 90-95% of the EBMM sound for $450 + $100 = $550 instead of $1500 + $0 = $1500. It's still just over 33% of the price.

What's more: musiciansfriend always has a return policy. :)

The SUB right next to the Fender Highway one series was/is the best mid price basses that were/are out there. If you can find a used one or a new one left over grab it. You won't be sorry.

I have to agree 1000%. I have an active, black 2003 SUB that I wouldn't part with for anything. Even more so now that they've been discontinued. I was really wary of it at first because I was concerned that there wouldn't be much tonal variety. But it goes from crispy and tight to punchy and growly to everything in between. You can't go wrong with it.

that's it, definitely. backed up by the varied response to OLPs on talkbass - some people have had total dogs, others wax lyrical about them...

The OLP M22's are great. two active pickups 3 band eq and nice finishes. I played one for a good hour today through a peavy 80watt (i think) i left the eq on the amp was flat and with the basses eq i could get pretty much any tone i was looking for. The 5 way pickup switch is great and im not at all a fan of switches i think blend is usually better for achieving tones but this switch gave alot of instant tone change posibilities and all really usable. the bridge pickup can go really growly and bitey and the neck can be made thick and punchy or mellow and almost fretless sounding. with both together you getthat full and slightly muted highend response sound that i love. I play everything from hardrock/metal to gospel\church and funk so when i say it achieved all the tones iw as fter thats a fair few and what got me most was its awesome slap tone and pickup switching instantly changed tones from a thick neck finger style to a crisp bridge slap tone in no time. a really versatile and quiality lil' bass for cheap.

Thats my 2 bits IMO atleast the bass i played was gd dunno bout others tho.

to repeat what someone said earlier, here in blighty even a used 'ray will set you back around 1,000 pounds if you're lucky.

let's be clear, we ALL want one and no fooling. but some of us would like something cheeeeeeeeaaap and halfway decent to play while we wait to find a buyer for our kidneys.
