Poorly bass

Hi, new here. I’m a “sometimes” bass player. I’m really a woodwind player but I learned bass when I was 16 and I get a little work on bass here and there.

I have a lovely Bass Collection bass. It is light, responsive, great action, quite petite and just what I need. Sadly it has decided it would like a trip to bass hospital instead of playing Rent this weekend (the part is evil, it has a point). I did what I could think of to solve the problem of suddenly dreadful intonation (adjust the saddles and change the strings) but it wasn’t enough. Here’s hoping it can be sorted as the bass I have borrowed has made me appreciate mine all the more.

It'll be fine. A few adjustments, and she'll be better than ever.

Haha, my first two cats were named Tamari and Shoyu . I borrow Shoyu for forums posts!

It is stamped Bass Collection, by SGC Nanyo (ironically a Japanese company). I love it. The neck is quite narrow and easy to negotiate. The one I have borrowed is slightly wider but it is a noticeable stretch.

Welcome to the gang, Shoyu. Forgive me but I'm not capturing the gist of your thread, and "the part is evil, it has a point" has my old brain befuddled. Was your bass working fine at one point, but then suffered some type of drop or break to cause it to go out of whack?

Oh yeah I see it now. Hah, it really looked like it was on the bass. Seems I've identified a hole in the market. Patent pending!

Hope it comes back fit and well The SGC Nanyo Bass Collection is held in high regard over here in the UK.
My old SB 310 is still going strong after 30 years.

I think Shoyu was referencing playing the musical Rent, and the "evil" part being discussed might be this one...



For what it's worth, it's one that's been on my iPod since I got it, and I must sing along every time I hear it.
