I'm far from a Porche-o-phile, but the Cayman is just a coupe version of the Boxster, itself a mid-engine vehicle (as opposed to the 911's rear-engine layout). To that end, I'm not sure how an SUV or a 4 door sports car with a completely different engine layout than the 911 are expanding on the 911.Frankly, Porsche has made a name for itself by trying to contravent he laws of physics, then spending 60-odd years trying to rectify the mistake of engine placement by offering 2,343,540 variations on one idea. When they branched out, however you get gems like the 914, 928, 944 and 935. But when they try to expand on what is just plain wrong (the 911) you get Caymans, Cayennes and Panameras.
Answer to OP: get a Jag.

As for the Jag, I'd wager anything the OP can afford (sub $6K range) is going to be one in desparate need of a mechanic.

I have a different opinion of Ford build quality from the 1990's. Your mileage obviously varies.http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...JAG&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=1010 '90s Jags will never break down, thanks to Ford build quality. Don't forget, this was from the era of the Focus, hailed as one of the most brilliant cars of its time.
Styling is something else entirely. The main point outlines in your prior post was the engine layout. As for the "either" comment, I'm a car guy and there are models from virtually every manufacturer that I find visually appealing. But back to Porsche, when they levae the 911 completley (like the 914) as opposed ot trying to base others off it (tell em the Cayenne doesn't look like a bloated 911) they come up with some decent stuff. But that said, you're either a Porsche guy, a Ferrari guy or an Aston guy, and I'm firmly in the green corner, thereby rendering my opinion 100% skewed agianst Stuttgart (and Maranello for that matter...)

Over here manual cars are the standard, so it is almost a moot point.
However, if you learn and sit your driving test in an automatic, you're licence doesn't cover you for driving a manual. So, take your test in an automatic, and you can only legally drive an automatic.
Taking your test in a manual, you can drive either. I wasn't sure how it worked in the US, as you guys have more automatics (which I'm assuming, possibly incorrectly) is almost the standard.

Also the era of the Contour and it's sister car the Mercury Mistake. Possibly two of the worst piles of crap ever built.
I have an 05' Boxster S and love it! To all you Z4 people I say Nay! I haven't found one yet that can hang with me in the turns. Mine has been on the dyno at 295 HP with aftermarket CAI. $5,900 is an awesome price especially if the motor was replaced due to the Intermediate shaft bearing failures.
I wouldn't recommend it as a first car for a teen as it is very easy to speed.
A local guy put a 3.4 911 engine in his and absolutely bullies the 911s around here.
The thing you need to remember here is European Ford and US Ford are nothing like each other. The current European Ford range is one of the most complete, good looking and above all, quality ranges on the market.
US Ford, ehhhh, not so good...
928, my fave Porche. The 914 not far behind...the 914 was a collabo with VW, correct?
