ported 4x10

I recently got an ampeg 4x10he cheap my qusetion is has anyone ever tried to port or rear port this cab i know its a full range, mite just be a project to mess with, one thing i do know is the cab overall volume is less than an actual ported ampeg cab im shure that would be a factor in placement and or port size thanks for the input

My experience tells me the exact opposite about how loud they will get. But porting does nothing for adding volume. While it would be nice if it were that simple, all porting does is add low end content. And if you add low end content, then it should actually have LESS available volume, since a good amount of your wattage will get diverted to pushing lows (lows always take more wattage to amplify than highs and mids). Also, bear in mind that the 410he and 410hlf are completely different cabs using completely different speakers. The only similarities are the logo, grill, and tolex.

And while port size is definitely a factor in how it turns out, placement is not. You can put the port(s) anywhere on the cab and it'll sound exactly the same.
