Portland, Or Music shops

Hey guys,
I've relocated to Portland for the summer and just completed my first week here. As I'm adjusting and trying to live with the fact that I didn't bring any instruments with me I'm looking to explore good shops in the area. I like a nice variety, but am willing to explore mom and pop shops too. Its not like I'm in the market at the moment so its not a must to have all the bells and whistles of the usual techy shops. Anyways I'm in Hillsboro but am commuting to Portland almost daily via Max transit for those of you familiar with the area.

All suggestions welsome!

Old town is the best centaur guitar on sandy and portland music company and trade up are the only ones left. Then there guitar center but thats really it... i think pro guitar shop is still in the beaverton area their downtown store closed...

The Hillsboro goodwill,is always posting awesome stuff on their auction site. They might have some cool stuff in the store too. It's definitely worth a shot..or you can watch their auctions,bid. And if you win you can always pick up in store good luck.

Trade Up Music is usually the best bet for bass deals (there's 2 locations). Old Town is alright but a bit of a crap shoot for bass. Portland Music Company is a good place for Fender stuff, but their stock is pretty old and they don't seem to order new stuff too often (no Fender Elites for example). Apple Music Downtown seems to stock Rics and G&L Tributes mostly, but they can also have the odd consignment deal.

They're really close to you. They stock all the usual suspects and they are also an Aguilar dealer. Not the largest assortment to choose from, but they are great folks to deal with.

Im actually friends with this guy on fb. Never bought or sold any gear to him though... also on the topic of d bags in the music scene avoid cherry bomb studios. Its this guy that trys to sell squiers out of his garage. Claims that they have been set up very well and asks 100$ over what new ones sell for... he doesnt like it when you call him out for selling squiers for more than what they are worth. He threatened me for over 3 months on fb till i just blocked him.

I was bummed to hear that. I worked there part time back in 1985 and that's where I bought the Fender Jazz in my avatar. I had to wait a month to see if it would sell at full retail first, and when it didn't, Kelly gave me a good price on it. That place had a HUGE wall of his personal collection of guitars and basses. If you google Apple Music in Portland, OR, you can see pictures of that wall. It's impressive, but unfortunately they closed in 2015.

There was alot of cool guitars and basses in apple. I really wanted that surf green g&l spb 100 that was on the bass wall for like 4 years. Then i got my stingray and lost interest in p style basses...

Yeah, I sent them an email last year to see if anyone worked there that was there in 1977, when I traded in my 60 Jazz with a dragon carved into the body. I would really like to find out what happened to that old warrior.

An art instructor in Yakima had it for sale at the local music store, and when I called him, he laughed. It was in pieces in a shoe box, but it was so cool, I had to have it ($450 1974 dollars). I used it pretty hard until I traded it at Apple for my Ric.

That was January of 1977 and it was a 4001 (which I still have).

Very cool! I know here's Guitarfish, Guitar Center, 5 star guitars, old town music , Portland music co, and trade up. I'll look into guitar crazy and most of them which I haven't seen. Lol
