Possible to put a 5 string J-neck on a 4 string P-body?

Ahoy,

So, I totally fell into nostalgia the other day at one of my guitarists house. We were bored so we decided to mess around with some song ideas but I didn't have any of my basses with me. I had given him my first bass yeeeeears ago when I started playing 5 strings and he brought it out.

I don't know the exact model number but I got it back in 95-96. Its a fender P with a P+J setup and the pick guard actually looks like it came off of a fender telecaster bass.

Haven't played it in years but man did it just SOUND good. I really think there is some magical about those passive pickups. Just such a great chunky/clangy sound without being thin.

So this made me go "If this was a 5 string I would totally use it all the time". And after looking online I can't seem to find any 5 string fender P's that are like this. I DID find a Squier 5 string Jazz Neck for cheap and I was wondering if the possibility of putting that on my P would be an option.

I know that jazz necks are thinner than the P's so I wondered if that worked out.

Anyone ever try it or know if it can be done?

THANKS

Them Squier J-5s have utterly gigantic necks, fwiw.

It might be worth thinking about Warmoth sometime, you could easily enough build a 5er copy of that(5er P/J with tele guard/headstock) using their parts, I would think.
