There are aspects of basses I find really beautiful
For example, a couple of years back Kiesel got his hands on some amazing Pale-Moon Ebony and made some of the more spectacular fretboards I've seen
The Afterburner II that Dingwall brought to NAMM in 2020 was breathtaking as a whole
As I've related previously, I bought a Squier James Johnston Jazz a few years ago as I was just a sucker for that matching-headstock Lake Placid Blue finish. It was OK out of the box . . . . .
Box-stock LPB Squier James Johnston Signature Jazz
. . . but I bought in mind to customize it a bit (though once I got my hands on it, I quickly realized mechanically it needed nothing, this was just going to be a shine-her-up job), influenced by a picture of a LPB Moon I saw on a Japanese website. As well, I never quite understood why Fender never applied that white-pickup-shells+white pickguard look to a bass. So . . . . .
Restomod ! Import Aerodyne knobs, white pickguard and shells, Fender Yosemite pickups, rewire to Volume, Blend, Tone with StewMac pots, cap, SuperJack, and those spring replacements for the pickup foam.
. . . . with a little money spent on the differences you can see, and a rewire to Volume, Blend, and Tone, it was done. I love this little axe, ironically the first four-string I've owned since 1989.
