Well, I think I’ve finally dialed in my post-lockdown/outdoor/no FOH/with a drummer sound! Anticipating that when gigs came back they would be outdoors, I put in an order this winter for a second MAS 18 (an older version Mike Arnopol had listed on his FB page at a substantial discount) and received it without too much delay. So my signal chain is: FC pick-up —> Black Box —> Tonedexter —> Clarus SL —> 2 MAS 18’s spread 6-8 feet apart. The TD is set to about 90/10 mic to pick-up ratio, and the notch filter is set to about 85, which seems to tame an over-resonant D string. The bass control on the Clarus is cut slightly (about 10:00), and the HPF is at 12:00. All other controls are set flat. The sound is full, warm, and punchy. Thank you Mike, Rick Jones, Brad Sarno, and James May for making such great gear for gigging bassists!
