Post-punk bassists

The way I see it, post-punk is the music made by people who became bored with punk's limitations and wanted to try other ideas. Prime examples are Magazine (apparently Howard Devoto had already had enough of punk by early '77, and so left the Buzzcocks), Siouxsie and the Banshees (who started off playing punk but left it behind before they even made a record) and PiL. Simon Reynolds' book 'Rip it Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984' is well worth a read. Its title sums up what was going on - these bands were throwing away the rules and reinventing what could be done with a rock line-up. Meanwhile, my picks: Steve Hanley, Jah Wobble, Peter Hook.

Mik Sweeney from Classix Nouveaux! Very overlooked and underrated bassist! Fretless monster (on basses he built himself!) on those records and live!
