Post your 1590a (tiny pedals) pedalboard

Looks like they're not making them anymore.
The mailman just dropped off the prototype PCB's for version two of the All Things Equal. Like V2 of the Fifth Gear we've decided to go to a standard sized enclosure and add more features. Stay tuned for updates. If all goes well, should be available in about 6 weeks.

My COG Mini 66 hasn't arrived yet so this is the mini board currently.

Well, I hope you're not abandoning 1590A altogether.

We will potentially offer limited runs in 1590A. Honestly the feedback I heard a lot was people would rather more features than the small box. I had a couple people tell me flat out they would never buy a mini pedal.

Plus with all top mounted jacks the space on the board is very similar.

Thanks Hamish.

The Imposter still holds its place on my board, it would take something mighty powerful to bump it off (like a purple-swirl 1590A Fifth Gear).

I totally get that 1590A is a niche market, definitely a minority; and I'm all about top-mounted jacks. When you examine all the aspects, 1590A don't really make any sense, but maybe that's part of their allure for me.

Glad I got one while I could, then. I like the 1590a format. It's great for flying. And I use EBS flat jack cables so side mounting is no big deal for me. Don't really have an opinion one way or another on top jacks vs side jacks, though, unless the recess lip is so deep I can't use an EBS cable.

I don't think anyone in this forum thread will tell you that :D

Do any of you power your small board with a power plug and a daisy chain only? If so, do you have any noise issues? I was wondering if I could power mine this way provided I get a large mA rated power plug. I'm going to try it. I ordered one that has 6 daisy chains and is rated for 1000 mA.

I've been running my board for almost two years now on a 1spot (from cioks, previously). No added noise, and I couldn't be happier with the weight reduction! (The plug neatly Velcros underneath too)

I use a PowerAll, and have had no issues. I do run an IsoPump for the Diamond, for isolation and to run it at 24v's for more headroom.
J!

I just moved from a daisy chain to a Cioks DC5. Not much difference noise wise except I can now isolate certain trouble making digital pedals - easy to tell if one of these is affecting you by unplugging the power from each pedal in turn. Also of course the convenience of having 9v/12v/18v all available.

Actually having a DC5 under your board can give you more noise issues than having a 1-Spot in some instances. I was unable to put my Diamond compressor anywhere near it for instance.

But the best thing I ever did to cut out the noise though was to ditch the poorly shielded flat EBS cables that act like a radio antenna for any nearby electrical interfence. With my dimmer switch on, just putting one of them in a true bypass loop was enough to prove that they were the main source of noise in my setup (and I tested several of them).

That's interesting... this is the first I've heard of this (noise caused by a Diamond compressor being too close to a DC5). I've seen a video where Poul Cioks shows various pedals and how their proximity to some power supplies can cause noise problems. I think it was the following video, but Microsoft updated my computer to the latest version of Windows 10 last night and now I can't play videos or hear any sound what so ever (thanks a lot, Microsoft! ), so I can't be sure.

Hmmm... This is the first I've heard this also. My entire board is wired with EBS flat cables and like @vivaknoxvegas , I haven't experienced any negative issues with them so far.

Went from bass into brand new cable, into 4 way true bypass switcher, into another brand new cable, into headphone amp.

Tried several brands of patch cable at different positions in the looper. Just activating one loop with an EBS cable added tons of noise, but only with my dimmer lights switched on in the room. All my other patch cables with fully shielded metal jacks were fine.

You might find them to be ok at home until you end up on a stage with interference from nearby lighting or other equipment!

Interesting, thanks for the info!

Concur. Some digital pedals can contribute noise with a wall-wart PSU. Nothing I can't live with so far though.
