Almost Cut My Hair
Song by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It's gettin' kinda long
I coulda said it wasn't in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Yes, I feel like I owe it to someone

Must be because I had a flu for Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
It increases my paranoia
Like looking at my mirror and seeing a police car
But I'm not giving in an inch to fear
'Cause I promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone

When I finally get myself together
I'm going to get down in that sunny southern weather
And I'll find a place inside to laugh
Separate the wheat from the chaff
I feel like I owe it
To someone, yeah

"Well he fell off a mountain and he never was the same
Somewhere in Colorado sits a chunk of Junior's brain.
All trussed up in Memphis you know he gotta got a gun
Gun dealers on the tour bus, ah, Bocephus wants to get it on"

Written by Eric Ambel (guitarist for Steve Earle and many others) after coming off the road with Hank Williams, Jr.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

Pink Floyd - Time

Why are you trying to make fun of me?
You think it's funny? What the f**k you think it's doing to me?
You take your turn lashing out at me
I want you crying with your dirty a$$ in front of me

Korn - Thoughtless

One thing's for sure
I'm all outta angst
Society don't bother me
And there's something wrong with that

NOFX - All Outta Angst

I LOVE a good nonsense lyric, courtesy of The Beatles

Oh, listen to that now
Oh, look out, it's

She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
But now she sucks her thumb and wanders
By the banks of her own lagoon

Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?

Sunday's on the phone to Monday
Tuesday's on the phone to me

She said she'd always been a dancer
She worked at fifteen clubs a day
And though she thought I knew the answer
Well, I knew what I could not say

And so I quit the police department
And got myself a steady job
And though she tried her best to help me
She could steal but she could not rob

Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?

Sunday's on the phone to Monday
Tuesday's on the phone to me
Oh yeah

Nonsense, you say? I take it you haven't dated many dancers? :woot::roflmao::smug:

This (by Becker & Fagen) is somewhat classic:

I'll learn to play the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in this world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

A recent pic in the Post A Funnier Picture... thread reminded me of this remarkably succinct yet clever line in Roger Miller's "King Of The Road"

"I'm a man of means by no means"

Paddy McAloon of Prefab Sprout used to have some nifty lines:

"All my lazy teenage boasts are now high-precision ghosts
And they're coming round the track to haunt me"

"If you grow up to be just like him, just like me
You're fighting for exclusive rights
For honeymoons each sleepless night"

"I've lost just what it takes to be honest"

"If it's uphill all the way you should be used to it by now"

"Absence makes the heart lose weight"

"Like an all-night radio station without morning"

"In the lobby of the Hotel Charlemagne
They're hanging photographs
Of rap artists and minor royalty
All cigarettes have been air-brushed from these pictures
Making everyone a liar
And saving no-one from their folly"
