Summer Highland Falls

They say that these are not the best of times
But they’re the only times I’ve ever known
And I believe there is a time for meditation
In cathedrals of our own

Now, I have seen that sad surrender in my lover’s eyes
And I can only stand apart and sympathize
For we are always what our situations hand us
It’s either sadness or euphoria

So we’ll argue and we’ll compromise
And realize that nothing’s ever changed
For all our mutual experience,
Our separate conclusions are the same

Now we are forced to recognize our inhumanity
Our reason coexists with our insanity
And though we choose between reality and madness
It’s either sadness or euphoria

How thoughtlessly we dissipate our energies
Perhaps we don’t fulfill each others fantasies
And as we stand upon the ledges of our lives,
With our respective similarities
It’s either sadness of euphoria

I don't know why but I could probably scroll along all damn day reading one or a few lines from tunes that are cherry picked by the poster... but I have no interest in reading a whole song's worth of lyrics.

You talk too much
You worry me to death
You talk too much
You even worry my pet

You just talk
Talk too much

Joe Jones - You Talk Too Much

PRETZEL LOGIC - STEELY DAN
  1. I would love to tour the Southland
    In a traveling minstrel show
Yes I'd love to tour the Southland
    In a traveling minstrel show
Yes I'm dying to be a star and make them laugh
Sound just like a record on the phonograph
    Those days are gone forever
Over a long time ago, oh yeah
    I have never met Napoleon
But I plan to find the time
    I have never met Napoleon
But I plan to find the time
'Cause he looks so fine upon that hill
They tell me he was lonely, he's lonely still
    Those days are gone forever
Over a long time ago, oh yeah
I stepped up on the platform
The man gave me the news
He said, You must be joking son
Where did you get those shoes?
Where did you get those shoes?
Well, I've seen 'em on the TV, the movie show
They say the times are changing but I just don't know
    These things are gone forever
Over a long time ago, oh yeah

Hatesong by Porcupine Tree

"This is a hate song just meant for you
I thought that I'd write it down while I still could
I hope when you hear this you'll want to sue"

...or
The Sound Of Muzak by Porcupine Tree

"The music of rebellion
Makes you want to rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age"
Those are really Steven Wilson songs. He’s pretty vocal about making that distinction. :bored:

She said, you're a good man, Baby
To treat me like you do
She said, you ain't done nothin' to me
I just can't stay here with you
I stood and watch my baby as far as I could see
You know the girl started runnin'
After waiving goodbye to me
Now that was too much for me
That's why I walked the backstreets and cry

Walk the Backstreets and Cry (Little Milton)

A fun bass line on this track too!

Sometimes you get too close to see
A different side of what life can be
And if you stare too long
It all becomes a blur
And it's easy to forget just who we are
Don't stare too hard
Just take a look around

-"Too Close To See" by Strung Out

'N' every gimmick hungry yob digging gold from rock 'n' roll
Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research
He who f**ks nuns will later join the church

-"Death Or Glory" by The Clash

How could I forget this classic Floyd gem:

Time spent lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain,
you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you
no one told you when to run; you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run, to catch up with the sun as it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Goosebumps every time.
