Hey guys, I've been a member for a little while just never engaged in the forums. I recently picked up an '81 Yamaha BB400. Everything seems functional and I've had an opportunity to play it on stage already. So no real complaints there. However It seems like two places on the top of the bass have got water damage to the wood. I'm at work right now so I'll post pictures tonight. But essentially it looks like the paint and whatever was sealing the wood has been worn off from use. And though it's a solid bodied instrument it seems like the wood is almost warped a bit where this happened.
I guess what I'm looking for is advice on how to fix this. I've been trying to do some research and found out about steaming the wood with a wet cloth and a clothes iron. I've also considered mixing up some epoxy and just sealing it over again. My hope with that approach would be of course preventing any further damage to the wood, but also preserving the road worn look a bit as it would be clear once it finishes hardening. But I also don't want to seal in any moisture if that's the issue.
