power amp question

alright, I have a 100 watt ampeg combo amp.
and I was considering buying a cabinet and 1000 watt power amp, to boost the watts.

and Im confused on whether this will give 1100 watts or just 1000 to the cabinet?

or do I have this whole theory wrong on how this works?

If your combo has a pre out, you can run that into the power amp. Then you can connect the power amp DIRECTLY to a separate speaker cab. Do not connect back to the effects return/power in. This will yield 1000w assuming the amp is 1000w bridged into 4 ohm and you use a 4 ohm cab. This will mean that the power amp in the combo is not used and neither is the speaker as plugging into the pre out jack disables the power amp which is directly connected to the speaker.

If you combo doesn't have a pre out/effects send, then this will not work at all.

I have a line out, is this essentially the same thing?

Should work as long as the pwr amp has and xlr input. In that case the interal amp and speaker of the combo should still work too.
