what exactly are power amps and preamps? i have almost no idea what they can be, but it sounds like it could give more balls to my rig, right? or what? :bassist:

Well, a normal bass amp has a pre amp and a power amp both in it. The pre-amp is what models your guitar tone; the power amp makes it alot louder.

So having a "preamp" and a "power amp" is just like having the two separate.

i see. what if i want to add more power to my head (which is only 400 watts at 4 ohms) ? do i just add a power amp?

  4. If you have a line out on your head, then yes. You can use the head as a pre, essentially.
