Power Conditioners.

The Furman P-1800 PF R is a fully featured power conditioner, designed specifically for use with instrument amplifiers and other high-current equipment. Key words: Current Reservoir - this resonated with me. I've had shows (digital amp) where it's all good, and at some point the crisp punch I was enjoying - dips, sags, or otherwise becomes less. So, I tweak the volume. Then the power comes back, and I get the look (the you're too loud look). And so, I've been searching for a power solution. This is one solution that seems to make the most sense. Haven't tried it yet - but would like the hear the community thoughts.

Now, there are ways to do this using a double-conversion switchmode inverter (I haven't seen it done for mainstream audio product markert) , but I would want to be darn sure of what I was buying before spending my hard earned money on it. Color me skeptical based on my experience and my knowledge of how these things work.

Furman's answer is Power Factor Technology
Power Factor Technology• with 45 amps peak current reservoir provides current-on-demand for instrument amplifiers and powered speakers
Clear Tone Technology• provides AC noise filtering circuitry engineered specifically for instrument amplifiers to provide a lower noise floor and greater dynamic response
- and they list other technology features....
But then, they add this Note:
Furman’s P-1800 PF R does not compensate for high or low AC line voltage. If you frequently move your rack to different locations, derive power from generators, use excessively long extension cords, travel internationally, or are in an area prone to brownouts, you may benefit from the use of one of Furman’s AC Line Voltage Regulators.

Great reviews on the unit - so there may be something to their claim.
 
From an engineering perspective, if you were to explore the science behind this, you will discover that storing power in an AC waveform (without rotating machinery) for any meaningful length of time is well beyond difficult.

Beware of claims written by any marketing department that states non-science possible principles without ACCURATELY explaining what's actually happening.

I have to deal with this subject when troubleshooting customer amp problems that are in some cases (not necessarily this one) caused by problems these kinds of devices cause. I am very familiar with what's going on under the hood, what they can and can't do, and the problems that can be caused... and this is one of the better ones.

Agreed. I felt the same when while reading their explanation of the technology. Seems like more advanced filtering techniques than anything else.
