What type of Bass do you play?

Are you going for a sound like background music in small venues?

The reason I ask is because some locations don't need to be loud.
Years ago, I played in a small jazz group with an Upright Bass that I rarely miked and it worked fine for acoustic settings. When I did mike it, I used a small combo - a Peavey Minx - just to add some definition. If you are playing an Upright with the group you decribe, then a 20 watt amp might be fine.

If you are playing an electric, one option may be to run through whatever PA/Mixer the vocalist is running through for additional volume.

anyway I play an elettric bass (carvin LB75)
anyway I'll do what you say and try placing the amp on a desk and maybe connect to the PA, how do I do that? do I just connect the line out of my amp to the mixer? how is the sound than?

If you have a line out it should sound ok running right into the mixer for the PA. My method is similar but I dont need an amp. I use a direct box and can plug right into the PA system. Direct boxes can be bought for between $20 and $500. Their quality varies with the price obviously. I use the Countryman Type 85 direct box and it is very good quality, costs about $160. This would be a nice alternative to buying a new amp if you have a PA to use.

just stating the obvious; be sure the output jack says, "line out" and not "speaker out". you don't want to send a powered signal to the board.

I am shure it says line out, i've also got an output for phones wich is the one I think you say speaker out
