Double Bass powered speakers better than amps?

Hi

I had a gig last night and i didn't had my amp there so i thought i could run my DB through one of the powered speakers on the club. it was a JBL but i don't know the model and it gave a very nice sound! much better than i was expecting

i was running and underwood pickup with a preamp (that came with underwood in the 70's).

i was amazed with the color of the sound!

so tell me, should one go for the powered speakers instead of an amp?

which powered speaker have you tried and find it's best for DB?

I have a couple of JBL EON 15 G2s and, in an emergency have used one of them as a bass amp for my double-bass. The sound was very impressive and drew lots of favourable comments from the band and the audience.
