Practice space cost

hey there

I've never seen this topic before and I'd be interested to know what you pay for your practice spaces and what might be included in that price

so, post away

P.S: I saw the post your practice space thread, but thought it was rude to intrude or hijack

I imagine prices are going to vary by market, amenities, etc. There are a few places in Baltimore that rent practice spaces by the month, and they range from $250 - $425 a month, depending on the size of the room.

They also have a practice room you can rent in 4-hour blocks, for $60 ($15/hour). That ain't too bad, IMO.

My current band uses an hourly place so we pay $40 for a 2 hour session.
The provided equipment is.......
4 Monitors
2 giant PA speakers
about 3000 watts of Crown power amps
SM57's and 58's
Mackie board
Mesa Dual Rectifier half stack
Marshall JCM900 half stack
Ampeg 810 cab
Ampeg SVT classic head
DW drumset with all hardware
Zildjian cymbals

So we just bring our axes, stick, doublebass pedal.

In the past I have used monthly spaces that have ranged from $400-600 a month

The $600 room was big enough for two full bands, two sofas, a recliner and an entertainment center so with two metal bands the rent broke down to $50 a person. It was also carpeted and had heating/ac. The building its self had no windows and used a key fob system for access. You would swipe the little plastic piece over a sensor on the front door and it would let you in. A computer then logged your entry and cameras followed you all the way to your room. The security was awesome at this place.

I also was at a place that was $300 a month. It had no security, no heat/ac, a concrete floor, no drywall on the inside of the rooms and I once had to chase a rat off of my amp.
You get what you pay for.

We pay $15/hr -- usually go 3 hours for $45. The place has just 1 huge single room for bands and 3 small private single teaching rooms(but are not used when we play after dark) so no band wars between walls.

Its in a small industrial complex so its empty and quiet when we practice at night. Comes complete with everything -- all we'd need to bring is our guitar/bass but we bring our own amps since we want our sound & settings.

We have a keyboard player so setup and tear down take about 15/20 each. We usually do this over the 3 hours at no cost. Works as long as no bands are infront or behind us.

just over a buck a square foot in a very nice place with it's own repair shop, hourly rental rooms w/ full backline, many many recording studios, 2 fully functioning elevators, vending & all the rooms have heat & ac.

My band rents a freestanding one car garage. I think it's $100/month which we split with another band. We use our own gear and PA. The landlord doesn't give a rip if we use it to rehearse, store junk, a car, whatever. It's insulated and has power. We've added carpets and a couch. A much better deal then renting practice space that is sold as practice space if you ask me.
