Practice Space Layout

Is there an accepted standard of general practice regarding practice/rehearsal space layouts?

My band practices in a storage unit that's approximately 10' wide by 30' long, and we currently have the drums in the back, with two guitar stacks in the middle of the unit at a 45 degree angle facing the drums, and my bass gear next to one of the guitar stacks.

Anyone have any tips or diagrams about the best (in terms of acoustics) way to position drums, guitar amps, and bass gear?

Make the guitarists point their cabs at their ears and not their knees.

This fixes 90% of practice tone and volume issues.

Whatever band I've been we have always resorted to a set up that is similar to what it's like on stage.
Drums in the middle, bass and guitar flanking. Although the amps are always angled towards the center of the room slightly.
The P.A. location varies depending on the room...trying to avoid feedback.

Think of it this way...you will get accustomed to hearing the guitar or bass coming from the same place as you would hear it on stage normally.
This comes in handy when you are playing somewhere that has horrible monitors, which is most of the bars I've played.
I have had monitors that sound like a buzzsaw cutting through my skull and told the sound guy to just cut the guitar and leave the vocals, then I just listen for the guitar from where I'm used to hearing it...

Whatever the case, you want to be able to hear the drums more than anything. Usually, that's nearest to the drums . So long as the guitar sound isn't drowning out the rhythm then you're fine. Remember, the rest of band has be to be able to hear you the two of you.
