Prat design

I'm about to put a down payment with Oscar Prat, but there's one last detail nagging me.
I worked out what kind of sound and look I want from this, but I need an inlay design.

Without giving too much away, it'll have a Ziricote fretboard. This bass is a culmination of a lot of change in my life, and I want it to reflect the new start (https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3667/8975701518_55a5479b4b_z.jpg) /chapter in my life.

I was thinking to have it made out of wood rather than abalone or something similar, but I can't think of which to use (I do have some blanks I could send him to use)...and have 0 ideas for design.

Any thoughts?

Shot in the dark, but what about a capital delta (greek letter)? Its a widely held symbol for "change"...

The yin-yang (too common?) is all about change.

I'd say reflect on your strengths, and present that in someway.

To reflect on your change now is only a snapshot of where you are at now, and not the whole package.

You may not be happy with the snapshot later in life

This is representative of a big change I purposely made...yes, it's the now, but it's a milestone. I was thinking I could represent that well with a marker (12th fret), but it wouldn't be in your face like a tramp stamp or something stupid.

I was thinking possible some tree inlay (birch? oak?) out of wood, but not sure which and what wood would contrast and look good against the ziricote

I second Beej's suggestion for using a delta, for the same reason. Plus, it's a pretty cool design, especially when you move away from a sterile triangle, and add a little style.

I'll third a vote for the Delta symbol, it has meaning, its simple, and there are lots of versions kicking around in different styles, though the one maple posted is particularly nice.

I'm for the delta for life change. A great simple design, looks good in hand-lettering style.

If you wanted a big complicated inlay for the same purpose, I would pick a phoenix.

Sycamore is a very light colored wood almost a white maple vibe that would contrast against the ziricote. German Birdseye poplar is a nice lighter wood with some interesting figure to it as well

Thanks Jerry! Oscar's got his hands full finishing a bunch of other builds, so when he reaches back out to me about this I'll bring him these suggestions and see what he thinks

Right on man! I've had a couple of basses with flamed sycamore tops that were beautiful. Also there still might be a German poplar topped mtd 635 at Austin bass traders you could look at to get a feel
