Every Stingray bass, pre or post EBMM, will have the word "Stingray" on the headstock. The bass you're looking at has had the neck replaced or refinished.
Im thinking that someone used a Sabre neck as a replacement on a Ray, and simply sanded off the "StingRay Bass" part of the decal.
malthumb said:I don't think so. The placement of "Music Man" still doesn't line up right. The M on my Sabre headstock below is further away from the G-string post than on my StingRay, but the end of the word and the trademark do not extend beyond the D-string on any of my basses like they do on the one in the OP.
An easy way for someone to tell if it's an original neck, is going to be removing the tuners and looking for the pin router hole plugs on the back of the headstock.
Mal, you can see the pin router plug just barely visible halfway poking out from under the D string tuner plate on my '78 Ray. It looks like yours is in about the same spot.
