PREAMP advice..

Hi All..

A faithful Lakland player and general active bass guy for years I have fallen prey to my retro side and picked up a couple of Rickenbacker 4003 basses... One new one a 1984 vintage...

What they lack of course is the thunder of the active electronics in the other basses and switching all amp settings when I switch basses on stage is simply not practical... Any external preamp advice that will allow me to leave the main amp alone?... a Sans amp maybe... Let me know what yall think..

i would highly recommend the sansamp programmable DI. three programmable channels, great for switching between different sounds/instruments. even with the controls set flat it cleans up your sound. great for going into a house system too.

Virtually any preamp/stompbox will do the job, however they all sound different. You'll have to try several out and see what you like. Personally, (and I play ONLY passive Rics), I use an EBS Valve Drive, and a Trex Squeezer,(comp) as well as a Barber Linden,(eq) in front of my amp. Between the 3 pedals, I can get my Rics to roar. Really, the Squeezer and Linden are the ones that stay on all the time, and the Valve Drive is used for overdrive, but boy o boy, do I get some thunder out of those Rics.
