Double Bass preamp for a passive pickup

I have an underwood pickup and want to get a preamp. The problem is the bass player I play with in another band has the same and we are having issues because the preamp is passive and we can't go direct with a passive DI box. Luckily he has a direct out from his amp but for me I do not. I was going to get the fishman b-ii but that seems to be passive too. Do I have to go with the fishman bass preamp or will the b-ii work?

um, not sure I understand what you are saying.

the pickup you have is a piezo type, right? that type of pickup needs a preamp with 1Meg or more input impedance. Most, I would say all, preamps are active - otherwise you really couldn't call it a pre-amplifier.

the fishman bii is acitve...not passive.

you are right though, a piezo pickup into a passive DI would not be a good idea.

I see what you are saying. The b-ii is active but my di is not so I don't know exactly how to configure it so I can use my piezo type pickup and get a good signal to the board. I figured I'd have to just get the fishman bass preamp to do both preamp and di. Can I configure the b-ii with a passive di or will that not work?

The B-ii will work with any D.I. box.


Plug your bass into the INPUT of the Fishman Bii
Plug the OUTPUT of the Fishman Bii into the INPUT of the DI
Plug the THROUGH of the DI to your combo amplifier
Plug the XLR output of the DI to the FOH
