I love my peavey grind 5, but i never seem to get that deep sound I'm looking for, due to lack of a 3 band EQ on the bass. I dont want to part ways with the bass, because the string spacing is perfect my fingers, and is quite frankly one of the best spacing's I've played on. So I've come to this. I'm going to install an active preamp to attempt to get this sound I'm looking for, but have no idea a) if it will change anything, and b) which preamp to choose. I'm thinking along the lines of the bartolini, aguilar obp3, or the cirrus/millinnium preamp. Any insight to what my best option would be or any advice regarding switching from passive to active would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Buy a trashed Millennium AC or older Fury V, take the VFL pickups and EQ out and put them into your Grind.

Getting a used Fury V or millennium 5 AC should cost $200 or less, and given a preamp and pickups will set you back at least $200, you'd be off to a good start and that pickup/EQ should give you plenty of bottom end.

I don't believe the vfl pickups will work for my grind

Are they one of the common soapbar sizes? I assumed they were the same size as the VFLs.
